W1 Wedge: Built for the Firmest Conditions

There’s a shot every skilled golfer dreads: short-sided in firm, tight conditions, on a rock-hard green that won’t accept anything but the perfect landing angle. Most wedges weren’t built for that. When the turf or bunker is baked and compact, the club bounces off before you can get under the ball — you skull it through the green, or decelerate and go nowhere.

Why we built the W1

Our founder Tom Bailey spent years watching skilled players get stuck in exactly that situation — elite technique, impossible shot, no wedge that could execute it. He grew up playing links golf in the UK, where the summer grass burns out and everything runs firm and fast. So he designed a wedge built specifically for the firmest conditions — one that lets you get the club under the ball, throw it up high, and stop it on the green with ease.

What the W1 is

Introducing the W1. An extremely low effective-bounce wedge, built for players who don’t lean the shaft — who lay the face wide open, play high-lofted shots, and need to get under the ball in the firmest, tightest conditions. Where the W2 and W3 are built for versatility and more shaft lean, the W1 is built for one thing: maximum height and stopping power in the firmest conditions. The sole angle is designed for players who present very little shaft lean at impact and rely on landing angle — not spin — to stop the ball.

The myth about firm conditions

Most players assume they’re stuck with low shots when conditions get firmer. The reality: if your wedge has too much sole angle for that lie, the club bounces off the turf before you can get under the ball — and no technique fixes that. The W1 removes that barrier.

The bottom line

In firm, compact conditions, the W1 gets under the ball like no other wedge in the lineup. It pops it up and lets you land it soft on a green that’s giving you nothing. If you’re a skilled player who competes in firm conditions and needs a specialized wedge that can execute the high shot when everything else fights you, the W1 is for you. Not sure? Compare the W1, W2 and W3.
